Furniture Restoration and Repairs
Antique Furniture Restoration
For many years we have been committed to the conservation and restoration of antique furniture.
From high end museum furniture pieces to family heirlooms, we have an extensive skill set of traditional antique restoration crafts, which include carpentry, veneering, leather desk top repair, french polishing, chair caning, metal polishing etc.
We aim to conserve original furniture polish & finishes, using sympathetic methods & materials on all the antique furniture that we handle.
Furniture Restoration
Not all the furniture restorations we carry out is on high end antique furniture pieces. We are happy to and relish the opportunity to restore furniture from all different periods and styles. In our workshop there is always an eclectic mix of Victorian, mid-20th century and modern furniture.
We class fireplaces as architectural furniture and, as such, it needs the same restoration skill set as any other piece of antique furniture. We carry out full restoration of fireplaces which includes repair & refurbishment of cast iron grates, removal of timber fireplaces, repair & repolishing of the fireplace, overmantle repair, mirror resilvering and full installation of the restored fireplace.
We also restore architectural pieces such as doors and do metal polishing of architectural hardware. Each and every piece of furniture that we handle is treated with appropriate care and attention, regardless of monetary value.
Furniture Repair
Furniture is meant to be used whatever the piece. Tables, chairs, a colonial chest of drawers, are not just aesthetically pleasing but have domestic practicability. Furniture repairs will inevitably be needed at some stage regardless of how much care is taken.
Some repairs are regarded as minor and can be rectified using basic furniture restoration skills. In the case of major structural damage contacting us at Acclaimed Furniture Restoration is highly advisable.
As reluctant as we are to criticise the furniture restoration enthusiast or the well intentioned handyman, we have been in the unenviable position of having to correct many clumsy furniture repairs which may become far more expensive than if the piece had come to us initially.
